The Verigene System from Nanosphere, Inc., is a benchtop molecular diagnostics workstation that utilizes patented gold nanoparticle technology to detect nucleic acid targets of interest for a variety of applications. From the outset, the Verigene System was designed with users in mind. The goal: make molecular diagnostic testing simple, accessible, and flexible, but still provide the high sensitivity, accuracy, and rapid multiplex target detection required by these applications. At the core of each Verigene System are two laboratory instruments, the Verigene Reader and the Verigene Processor, and single-use laboratory consumables, the Verigene Test Cartridges.
The Verigene Reader is the central control unit for a Verigene System. Through its simple touchscreen interface and barcode reader, users identify and track their samples and Test Cartridges, monitor test processing, analyze results, and generate results reports. The Verigene Reader supports operation by multiple users and is web-enabled. A single Verigene Reader can control up to eight Verigene Processors (v1).
The Verigene Processor (v1) completes random access processing of up to four single-use Test Cartridges simultaneously. All of the functions required to process a Test Cartridge are internalized in each of the four independent test processing modules of a Verigene Processor (v1). In addition, each test processing module of the Verigene Processor (v1) is equipped with a barcode reader to ensure positive identification of a patient sample and the associated Verigene® Test Cartridge. For conservation of bench space, up to three Verigene Processor (v1) units can be stacked atop one another.
